A wide selection of photographic images greeted judge Sheila Brown who came along to judge members’ prints and digital images for Viewfinders of Romsey Camera Club’s latest assessment.
In the primary print section, two prints were awarded 10 marks. Pam Bradley continued her recent success in competitions by being awarded maximum marks for her very delicate image of a “Camellia Transformed”. Sheila also liked Ian Ross’s “Hedgerow Oak”, as she felt the dreamy, delicate, misty feeling communicated emotion.
In the advanced print section, four 10s were awarded. Sheila admired George Marsh’s simple composition of a “Bluebell in Grass” and was attracted to the good contrasts and warm glow in Tony Pitman’s “A Winter Walk”. She felt Peter Read’s “Rhum View” was a very strong image, a superb picture with a feeling of immense space, and wife Sheila Readalso received praise for the excellent lighting in “Bluebell Wood Abstract”.
There is always a large entry for the primary class of the digital image section, but Sheila limited herself to two 10s – one going to George Atkins for “Outback Colours”, with its beautiful weather-beaten branches, and coloured rocks. The other went to Gerald Ponting for “Humpback Fluke”, which Sheila felt was a great picture of a whale diving.
In the advanced section of the digital images, Sheila awarded three more maximum marks. She described Stan Stubbs’ “Pair of Blue Tits” as gorgeous, as the birds really had character, and considered the strong silhouettes and clouds in Terry Jamieson’s “Shepherd’s Warning” really enhanced the image. She wondered how Sheila Read’s “Seed Head Circle” was created but felt it was an imaginative and quality image.
Sheila Brown had a wide range of subjects to judge and she certainly gave members a very interesting evening, with many useful comments.
