Viewfinders honour the best images of the year
At the beginning of the new Club season, Viewfinders enjoyed an evening of the best images produced by members over the last year, with trophies awarded for the best print and slide, and for the first time this year, the best digital image.
Judge David Barton acknowledged the challenging task he had to select winners from the high quality work before him, but nevertheless he achieved it with some very constructive comments presented in his own very entertaining style.
Winner of the Intermediate Print of the Year trophy was Jill Koernich with her print, Pantheon Glow, with David Barton commenting on its stunning light quality. Roy Lambeth was then awarded the Print of the Year trophy in the Advanced class for his superb wildlife study “Across the Plains”.
As with many clubs, there has been a noticeable drop in the number of slides entered for competitions, with many members changing over to digital photography, and there were only entries in the Advanced class for this trophy. In this category, Lynn Lambeth was awarded the Slide of the Year trophy for her equally superb wildlife study “Cheetah”.
The first Digital Image of the Year trophy was then presented to Mark Koernich for his “Spring Bud”, with the judge commenting particularly on the high quality of this image.
The evening’s honours were therefore shared by two of the Club’s husband and wife partnerships!
During the evening, a new trophy – the Stan Webb trophy - was also awarded, in honour of one of the Club’s founder members, who died recently. The Club was particularly pleased to see a number of members of Stan’s family there, to see it awarded for the first time. The trophy is to be presented each year to the Club member who produces the highest number of quality digital images and this year it was awarded to Sheila Read for her digital work during the year. One of Sheila’s images is shown here. Stan’s widow Edna came along to present the trophy to Sheila – a glass bowl given to her by Stan, and now given to the Club to award each year in recognition of the pleasure the Club gave to him.
Viewfinders meet on Tuesday evenings at the Jubilee Hall, Timsbury, and visitors are always welcome.
