Viewfinders of Romsey Camera Club welcomed along Jim Marsden to judge the best images produced by the Club during the last year, and present the Digital Image and Slide of the Year trophies.
The evening began with the digital images, starting with the substantial number of primary class entries. As digital images are a fairly recent introduction to competitions in the Club, members remain in the primary class until they have achieved a certain number of high scoring images. Jim awarded the trophy to Peter Read for his infrared image of Stoodley Pike, being attracted particularly to the way the rocks led into the landscape. Second place was awarded to Roy Lambeth for “Steam meets Diesel”, an atmospheric combination shot with the curve of the railway line cleverly drawing the observer into the picture. Third place was again awarded to Peter Read, with Jim admiring his eye for design in “Spreading Tree”.
In the advanced Digital Image section, Jim felt that Terry Jamieson’s shot of two stags “Let Battle Commence” was superb and extremely well caught, and thus deserved first place and the trophy. Sheila Read’s artistic pattern picture of “Cones on Wood” was second, and third place went to Roy Lambeth for his wistful portrait of a young boy – “Mat on the Train”.
The slide trophy was awarded in the second half of the evening, and the entries for this were all in the advanced class. Jim awarded the trophy to George Marsh, for his superb natural history shot of “Sandwich Tern with Young”. Second place went to Peter Read for his atmospheric “Train at Chama”, with the billowing steam dominating the picture. Third place went to Lynn Lambeth for “Patterns”, a striking pattern picture of the side of a modern building.
