Print and Slide Panel Trophies 2008
Viewfinders of Romsey Camera Club welcomed along Peter Morss from Molesey Photographic Club to judge their panel trophies for prints and slides. For these trophies, members’ panels of three prints or slides are shown simultaneously and are all new images not previously seen in competitions. The images have to be related in some way, perhaps having a common theme, or showing a sequence of events.
For each panel, Peter had to assess each image individually and then award a mark for the whole panel. The trophy was then awarded to the panel entry with the highest number of marks overall.
In the slide panel section, Peter awarded first place and the trophy to George Marsh for his panel of “Insects”, as he felt that how the images had been put together had been well-considered and were all of high quality, gaining 46 marks. George Marsh also took second place for the beautiful light and nice images in “Fungi”, with 43 and a half marks. Third place was awarded to Peter Read for the strong light and feeling of movement in “Marram Grass”, gaining 43 marks.
In the print panel section, Peter awarded first place and the trophy to Jill Koernich for her delightful “Flower Detail”, which he described as a lovely piece of work. He awarded perfect 10s for two of the prints, a perfect 20 marks for the panel, and a near perfect total of 49 and a half marks out of 50! Peter felt that each image had been thought about and that the three images related well to each other with the clever use of shapes. Second place went to Lorraine Slater for “Swan Lake”, which Peter felt was a super little black and white panel, gaining 48 marks. Third place with 46 and a half marks went to Sheila Read for “Rock Waves”, which he described as a ‘classy panel’, with the shapes of the curves in the rocks and the light being used to create a panel that hung together well.
The results in the both the prints and slides showed that the most successful panels needed a set of quality images together with consideration of how the three images should relate to each other. Substitute chairman Stan Stubbs thanked Peter Morss for doing an excellent job of judging the panel trophies, a task that is in fact very hard work for the judge.
