Hampshire Water Festival 2008

This year’s festival once again returned to Romsey, and the club had a late request to stage a photo exhibition with of course the theme of ‘Water’. Publicity officer Margaret Kirby got us all involved in this project although the festival organiser could not tell us where we might end up. With less than 15 hours to go we found ourselves in the Abbey Hall and with display boards we had never seen before!

On the day with heavy rain forecasted we were in place at 8am with everything assembled, up and ready to run within 90 minutes, which is due mainly to the many volunteers who turned up and worked rather hard but as a team. Liz Whitemore and Margaret spent some time patrolling the town putting up our posters to combat the lack of publicity from the organisers. Jack Whitemore organised the images to be shown insisting that as many club members as possible had some work on display.

With over 200 visitors to the exhibition and so many favourable comments we think that this was a very worthwhile exercise generating much public awareness and hopefully one or two new members.  All we have to do now is find the idiot who kept saying things like “no publicity is bad publicity” and during the struggle to assemble the boards, “eye line is sales line”.
